Abstract:   (195 Views)
Background and Aims:  Traffic accident statistics in Iran are extremely high, causing irreparable damage to the country's economy and national resources. The present study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of traffic accidents recorded in Ferdows County, Iran.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on all traffic accidents recorded by the Asayar system in Ferdows County, Iran, in 2023. After collection, the data were entered into SPSS software (version 24) and analyzed using descriptive (frequency and frequency percentage) and analytical (chi-square and effect size) tests.
Results: A total of 1256 traffic accidents were recorded in Ferdows County, Iran, in 2023. Most of the accidents occurred in April (12.6%), involved males (65.8%), and affected individuals aged 13 to 21 years (21.25%). Urban, road, and rural accidents, mortality rates, as well as head injuries and multiple trauma in accidents involving light vehicles, had a statistically significant difference, compared to other vehicles (P<0.001). Mortality rates for fractures, vascular injuries, bleeding, and multiple trauma were substantial, compared to other injuries (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Most traffic accidents occur during holidays with passenger cars and on roads outside the city, among young and male members of society. Given the high statistics and the widespread and destructive effects of traffic accidents on society, the authorities and legislators must take serious measures to reduce traffic accidents.
