Together for Health, Stand with Science: A Decade of Global Health Discourse on World Health Day

World Health Day has evolved in recent years from a symbolic occasion into a platform for highlighting major global health challenges and guiding policy priorities. The 2026 slogan, “Together for Health, Stand with Science,” emphasizes the importance of collective action and evidence‑based decision‑making in addressing complex health threats. This editorial reviews the themes of World Health Day over the past decade to illustrate how global health discourse has shifted from disease‑specific concerns toward broader issues such as health equity, universal health coverage, planetary health, and the role of scientific evidence in policy and practice. The experience of the COVID‑19 pandemic demonstrated the vulnerability of even advanced health systems when scientific communication, public trust, and equitable access to health resources are insufficient. Over time, World Health Day themes have increasingly highlighted the interdependence between science, social solidarity, and health justice. This editorial also reflects on the relevance of these global trends for Iran’s health system, emphasizing the importance of strengthening research capacity, promoting health literacy, and fostering stronger connections between science, policy, and society. Ultimately, the 2026 theme serves as a reminder that sustainable improvements in population health require both social cooperation and a firm commitment to scientific evidence.
