Background and Aim: Using various ways to decrease drug adverse pain during labor pain is accompanied by weakening of the pulmonary system of the mature fetus, and maternal mortality. The present study aimed at evaluating injection of distilled water in decreasing back pain during the active phase of labor. Materials and Methods: In this double blind clinical trial study, 160 primigravidas -applying sequential sampling- were randomly divided into two groups cases and controls. In the cases distilled water was subcutaneously injected in the Sacrum while normal saline was used for the controls .Then, pain degree was measured using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) before injection and 40, 60 and 90 minutes after injection. The obtained data was analyzed by means of SPSS software (version 15) Mann Whitney, Freedman, Wilcoxon, and Chi-square tests. Results: In both groups, mean pain intensity decreased in all of the recording time (40,60 and 90 minutes after injection), at 60 and 90 minutes to 40, and at 90 minutes to 60 which was statistically significant. Mean variation of pain intensity at 40, 60 and 90 minutes after injection was not significant in both groups. 32.4% of the cases and 27.5% of the controls demanded analgesics in order to decrease pain. Inclination to use this method again was not different in both groups. Conclusion: Regarding the effect of subcutaneously injection of distilled water injection on decreasing the growing intensity of pain during the active phase of labor, applying this technique is recommended.
