زمینه و هدف: مرگ‌ومیر کودکان یکی از شاخص‌های کلیدی سنجش وضعیت سلامت و توسعه اجتماعی محسوب می‌شود. شناخت الگوی علل مرگ‌ومیر کودکان، نقش مهمی در برنامه‌ریزی مداخلات مؤثر دارد. این مطالعه با هدف توصیف علل مرگ‌ومیر کودکان ۱ تا ۵۹ ماهه و بررسی نوسانات سالانه آن در جمعیت تحت پوشش دانشگاه علوم پزشکی تربت‌حیدریه طی سال‌های ۱۳۹۷ تا ۱۴۰۲ انجام شد.
روش تحقیق: این مطالعه از نوع مقطعی است و با استفاده از  داده‌های ثبتی گذشته در یک بازه شش‌ساله انجام شد. کلیه موارد مرگ ثبت‌شده کودکان ۱ تا ۵۹ ماهه مطالعه طی سال‌های ۱۳۹۷ تا ۱۴۰۲ وارد مطالعه شدند. داده‌ها شامل ویژگی‌های دموگرافیک، علت اصلی مرگ بر اساس طبقه‌بندی ICD-10 و موارد فوت منتسب به کووید-۱۹ بود. آنالیز داده‌ها با استفاده از نرم‌افزار SPSS و ArcGIS Pro انجام شد.
یافته‌ها: در مجموع ۱۷۷ مورد مرگ ثبت شد. میانگین سنی کودکان فوت‌شده 17.18 ± 17.17 ماه بود و بیشترین فراوانی در گروه سنی ۱ تا 12 ماه بود. توزیع موارد فوت از نظر جنس، محل سکونت و محل وقوع مرگ به‌صورت توصیفی گزارش گردید. ناهنجاری‌های مادرزادی (44%) و حوادث غیرعمدی (17.5%) شایع‌ترین علل مرگ بودند. در طول دوره مطالعه، تنها دو مورد مرگ منتسب به کووید-۱۹ثبت شد.
نتیجه‌گیری: بر اساس یافته‌های مطالعه، ناهنجاری‌های مادرزادی و حوادث از علل اصلی مرگ‌ومیر کودکان در منطقه بودند. تقویت مراقبت‌های دوران بارداری، بهبود برنامه‌های غربالگری پیش از تولد و اجرای مداخلات پیشگیرانه می‌تواند نقش مهمی در کاهش مرگ‌ومیر کودکان ایفا کند.
